During their education at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Charlize discovered a true love for the art of devising. It is something that has highly influenced their creative process and now they bring a flare of it into everything they make or do.
In their senior year of college at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, they had the privelege to be a part of their dear friend Carrigan Boynton's Contemporary Theater Capstone: Earthling. As a solo-show, Charlize got the chance to understudy their dear friend and roommate Mabel White, as well as help write and inspire parts of the script, and also take the role as movement captain.
We submitted Earthling to many different festivals and ended up hearing back from United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, and we performed Earthling Off-Broadway at the festival in March of 2024. And in the end, we did recieve two awards, Best Emerging Artist - Mabel White, Earthling Best Emerging Playwright - Carrigan Boynton.
This show truly taught them something about what its like to build theater based on community and human experience, as much of the text was inspired or based on stories from our own lives. And getting to help not only write, but also devise the movement sequences in this piece was truly a magical experience they will never forget.
